Wireless local area network

A wireless local area network is a sharing method for two or more devices. The wireless local area network has an access point and uses high-frequency radio waves. It connects devices and communicates wirelessly.

W(LAN) can support hundreds of devices. When one or more repeaters are added it can be easily extended. It can easily upgrade the old ethernet to the new version.

Wireless local area network contains different types of devices, like Mobile, gaming consoles, internet audio systems, internet devices and home appliances, laptops, tablets, and gaming consoles.

Wireless access point AP connects the devices. It is a central device. Through the wireless link, communication can be accessible with access points. You can easily reach the Ethernet network.

This network covers the CITIES and multiple devices. WLAN is based on IEEE 802 .11. It started in 1971. It developed the professor Norman Abromson working at the University of Hawaii.

Pros and cons of Wireless local area network

For its setup, WLAN uses two fundamental transmission mechanisms. Both radio and infrared technology are used for transmission. Since it needs a clear line of sight and can be readily blocked by objects in its path, infrared technology is no longer employed. Infrared is hence unreliable. Wireless technologies, however, are susceptible to noise and interference. The interference may be brought on by weather issues, such as rain or thunder. However, despite some drawbacks, wireless is preferable. Wireless communication offers Excellent flexibility. The following are WLAN’s benefits and drawbacks:

Pros

For propagation, there is no need for visible light.
There are no obstructions to the signal, such as trees, buildings, etc.
High data rate due to limited coverage.
trustworthy form of communication
affordable for a limited access area.
Excellent flexibility is offered by wireless transmission.

Cons

This communication is highly susceptible to noise and interference.
It only has a small coverage area.
Unauthorized access is frequent and communication is not always secure.
A license is necessary.
